Summary/Abstract: Adopting the standpoint of Eric Voegelin, this article deals with the two kinds of the the philosophical search for God: the cosmological one, starting from the contingency of things in the external world, and the existential one, starting from the contingency of the self. The aim of the article is to show that the latter is not only a necessary supplement of the former, but also its very basis.
