Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the comparative analysis of the usage of the Russian proverb Лучше синица в руках (в руки), чем журавль в небе and its German equivalent Besser ein Spatz in der Hand als eine Taube auf dem Dach in newspaper articles. The ways of connection of analysed paroemias to the context are examined. The methods of authors’ proverb transformations are described. The results of the comparative analysis of lexical and grammatical means used by the authors in Russian and German newspaper articles when employing equivalent proverbs are presented.
