Summary/Abstract: Excavations of Trypillia culture sites at Eastern part of the cultural unity Precucuteni-Ariusd-CucuteniTrypillia cultural complex started at the end of 19th century by Vikentij Khvoika. Now we know about more than 120 sites, located at the banks of the Dnieper in its middle reaches. Among the first sites discovered there was the site near the village of Trypillia (explored between the period from 1897 to 1907), which gave the name to the archaeological culture. For a long time our knowledge about the beginning of Trypillia culture occupation of this region was based on data from this old investigations, poorly published near 100 years ago. Last 15 years of archaeological investigations of the early sites here substantially changed this situation. Different scale excavations or field prospections were carried out at several places, including sites near Dereviana, Dolyna, Kopachiv (Kolomyitsiv Yar), Pluty, Posadova Gora (Trypillia). The total number of settlements of stage BI-II in this area is 13 now and it is possible to manage data for their internal chronology and origins.
