Summary/Abstract: The contemporary French writer Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt is represented in the fullness of the genre diversity that characterizes his work. His reception in Bulgaria is traced and analysed from his first appearance in the country in 1999 to the present day, through the principles of reception and receptive aesthetics. The examination of the literary relations and the communication between Schmitt and the Bulgarian audience takes into consideration, of course, the personal and creative specificities of the writer himself, but also the peculiarities of the contemporary literary scene in Bulgaria and worldwide, the historical cultural and literary relations between Bulgaria and France, translators as intermediaries, etc. As a result, the study reaches conclusions that clarify the difficulties of the French writer on the Bulgarian literary scene and the reasons for the impressive success of Emmanuel Schmitt.
