What is Postmodernism? A Voice From the Distance

Summary/Abstract: Philosophical postmodernism, since its beginning, has aroused contro-versies and was met with a great deal of criticism. One has to state, however, thatthere is an enormous confusion concerning what in essence this criticized philosoph-ical approach is, i.e.: what is postmodernism? The aim of this paper is an attemptto clarify postmodernism by showing a significant part of its current reception, itsrelation with other philosophical currents, and pointing out some “myths” connectedto it. As the title says, the presented article is a “voice years later”, so it is a voiceasking about postmodernism today — when it is more mature and grounded thanin the 1970s or 1980s. From this perspective, the main question of the text is: whatkind of postmodernism (or: what understanding of postmodernism) makes senseand has value for contemporary philosophy.
