Summary/Abstract: The Ottoman Empire began to establish diplomatic relations immediately after Serbia gained its independence with the Berlin Treaty. In this context, the first embassy was opened in Serbia in early 1879 and Hüseyin Hüsnü Sermed Efendi was appointed as the first ambassador on May 1879. After Hüseyin Hüsnü Sermed Efendi, Babanzâde Halil Halid Bey (September 1880-January 1885), Yusuf Ziya Pasha (October 1885-December 1889), Mahmud Nedim Pasha (December 1889-May 1890) were appointed as ambassador in Belgrade. Mehmed Feridun Bey was the 5th ambassador appointed to Belgrade (May 1890-May 1893). In this study, the process of Mehmed Feridun Bey’s appointment to Belgrade and his activities in Belgrade are discussed. The Ottoman Archive documents constitute the main source of the study.
