Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issue of cultural-historical and artistic values of the churchdedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Gdynia. This church is one of the first churches builtin Gdynia after the war. It is a testimony to the faith and determination of the parish priestFather Hilar Jastak, the parishioners and inhabitants of the city. The church was built despitethe harassment of the then communist authorities as a votive offering on the occasion of the1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland. It is the work of two outstanding architects,Prof. Jan Borowski and Prof. Leopold T araszkiewicz, who gave it a monumental, modernistcharacter. The decoration of the church is also very valuable in artistic terms, largely due tothe mosaics by the Gdansk sculptor Boguslaw Marshal. The church is a witness to important historical events. It contains the Chapel of Shipyard Workers, Port Workers and Peopleof the Sea, where memorabilia of the drama of December 1970 and August 1980 are stored. All this led to the inclusion of the church in the register of monuments in 2015. Conservationwork then began, aimed at restoring the original beauty of this famous shrine, known as the“Pearl of Gdynia Modernism”.
