Summary/Abstract: Bulat Okudzhava is a Russian poet and bard, whose songwriting enjoyed extraordinary popularity in the 60s–80s of the twentieth century. The lyrical-romantic orientation of his works was also manifested in the vocabulary and phraseology he used. There is no doubt that the lexical structure of a literary work should be studied inextricably with its idiomatics – a set of phraseological and paremiological units. The article examines the special expressive role of phraseological units, structural and semantic transformations in their composition, and the semantic modification of set phrases (including the collision of phraseologically related and free meanings), etc. We analyzed the phraseological units used by the poet in the lyrics from the point of view of their origin and functional purpose. In total, we found about 200 examples. It has been revealed that the phraseology used by the poet includes several layers.
