Performance of Insurance and Reinsurance Contracts under Sanctions Regime Imposed on the Russian Federation

Summary/Abstract: The Russian Federation’s military invasion of Ukraine caused a strong reaction of the EuropeanUnion and its allies, in the form of restrictive measures imposed on the Russian Federation andits associated entities. These measures are aimed at restricting trade with Russia, as well asrestricting the provision of services to entities associated with this country. Insurance is one ofthe sectors affected by these restrictions.The aim of the article is to determine the impact of restrictive measures resulting from publiclaw upon private legal relationships, including insurance and reinsurance contracts. The analysiscovers both sectoral and fi nancial restrictions.
