Summary/Abstract: The texts is a two-threaded story in which historical and contemporary storylines intertwine. The author describes pogroms in Western Galicia in 1870, 1898, 1918–1919 and pogroms in Eastern Galicia in 1941, commemorating their victims and showing the broader context. The highlight is a contemporary journey to Ukraine in the footsteps of the protagonists: in Zolochiv/Złoczów, Skhidnytsia/Schodnica, and Drohobych Monika Sznajderman looked for biographical and literary clues. It is also a journey in search of the first and last images experienced by Bruno Schulz. A fragment of a larger whole devoted to the Jewish history of Gorlice.
