Summary/Abstract: The study of language, culture and translation is vital for fostering global communication and bridging linguistic and cultural divides. Translation acts as a link between languages and cultures, transcending mere linguistic exchange to address cultural nuances. This article explores the concept of realia-words – terms with specific cultural references – and their translation challenges. Realia-words are classified into three categories: geographical, ethnographic and sociopolitical, with ethnographic terms being the most prevalent in I. Creangă’s novel "Amintiri din copilărie". These words reflect aspects of daily life, culture and social structures in 19th-century Romania.
