Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the specificity of the psychological preparation of social workersfor working with seniors throughout their professional careers. It emphasizes that providingservices to seniors requires understanding their individual characteristics and the changesbrought about by aging. Factors affecting the effectiveness of such work were identified.Psychological preparation involves shaping, developing, and refining the mental attributesnecessary for effective professional activity. A distinction is made between psychologicalpreparation and mental readiness – a state achieved through preparation (includingpsychological preparation) that enables effective performance of professional duties. Thecomponents of mental readiness include cognitive, motivational, personal, emotional, andactivity-related aspects. Key competencies for social workers are psychological and socialcompetence, as well as communication skills. Psychological preparation of social workers forworking with older people is analyzed in the context of three stages: the selection of candidatesfor social work studies, preparation during university education, and psychological enhancementduring professional practice.
