Summary/Abstract: We propose in this study an explanation, in terms of Nae Ionescu's theory of ethnic reality, of the drama lived by the writer Mihail Sebastian, who honestly identified with colleagues of Romanian generation, among whom he felt more comfortable than among co-ethnic his. We also discuss the issue of the extent to which the indicators proposed by Nae Ionescu (ethno-religious tradition and native soil) work in the case of Sebastian, as well as in the case of writers who converted to Orthodoxy: Marcel Avramescu and N. Steinhardt.
