Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to create an interactive map of popular functional style based on a theoretical approach of functional stylistics. Functional style helps not only to choose what to represent on a map, but also how to represent it. To achieve the following aims the resulting map of the Lithuanian state border change is created. It represents the state border and territorial changes of Lithuania starting from the beginning of the state formation until the current situation with the extreme changes and transformations that took place during the period of over 1000 years. The map is characterised by a popular functional style and is intended for a wide range of users for educational purposes. The elements of popular functional style, such as the characteristics of the language and stylistic devices, are evaluated in accordance to the stylistic motivation. Information on the map is presented accurately, clearly and simply, with subtle accents and expression. Metaphor, hyperbole, and antitheses are the examples of stylistic devices used to represent information in appropriate way on the map. The functionality of the map influences the functional style and the final graphical appearance of the map. Large amount of information is available through hyperlinks thus maintaining uncluttered view. The Map of the Lithuanian state border change is an example of integration of functional style theory into the mapping practice.
