Summary/Abstract: The genre of Dalāʾil al-nubuwwa (proofs of prophethood) emerged to establish and demonstrate the legitimacy of the prophethood of Muhammad. Drawing upon in the second century of the Hijri calendar, was fully formed by the fourth century. This literary genre gained prominence as Muslims began interacting with non-Muslims. The works that emerged to defend prophethood, revelation and the fundemental issues of Islamic faith in general, mostly in response to religious, philosophical and other views that emerged against Islam, became a distinct literature over time. Islamic scholars endeavored to provide rational, revelatory, and sensory arguments in support of prophethood. These works, composed over an extended period, primarily aimed to substantiate the prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad within the framework of miracles and wonders. The dissemination of Islam among Eastern Christians, gave rise to the emergence of anti-Islamic polemics, which in turn prompted Muslim scholars to produce defensive writings in response. Among these were treatises focused on the Prophet’s prophethood, such as those in the Dalāʾil al-nubuwwa tradition. The ideas presented in these early works served as foundational references for later scholars in the field. One such figure is Said Nursi, a prominent intellectual of the late Ottoman Empire. Nursi’s works often centered on Isbāt al-wājib al-wujūd (the proof of necessary existence) and tawhīd (the oneness of God). Furthermore, he has been recognised for his original insights into the concept of Dalāʾil al-nubuwwa.The present study aims to ascertain Said Nursi’s approach to the issue of Dalāʾil al-nubuwwa in the context of his work Maktūbāt. The 19th letter of this work is devoted to the topic of dalāʾil al-nubuwwa. While Nursi's overall approach to dalāʾil aligns with traditional tenets, his distinctive commentary on the narrations he incorporates, in conjunction with his responses to potential reader inquiries, distinguishes his contributions. The fact that Nursi's work is a dalāʾil text written in the modern period further amplifies its significance.
