Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to identify the potential of the presidential inaugural address in the didactics of rhetoric, particularly withregard to such issues as analysing the rhetorical situation and the performativity conditions of the presidential swearing-in act. Thearticle seeks answers to the question of how rhetoric is shaped by circumstances and how rhetoric shapes the image of the situation. Ananalysis of an inaugural address in the didactics of rhetoric makes it possible to show the conventionality of the inaugural speech (theproblem of genre and style) and how presidents express themselves, their political ideas and political backgrounds in this conventionalscheme, as well as by what means of inventio, dispositio and elocutio they win people over and make a pitch for their vision of thepresidency. The text proposes a path for rhetorical analysis of inaugural speeches with examples that can be used in the didactics ofrhetoric.
