Interpretation of Article 51 of the UN Chart with respect to the right to preventive self defence

Summary/Abstract: In connection with the war in Iraq, the term "preventive self-defense" has often been used in the literature in recent years. This seemingly clear term raises many questions that are not answered unequivocally, which leaves room for further examination of this institute of international law. The topic of this article is the place of preventive self-defense in the UN Charter, resp. in Article 51 of this document. The main method of research is various generally known interpretive methods of the norms of international law.
