Summary/Abstract: Serbia continues to serve as a key transit country for migrants moving through the "Balkan Route" toward Western Europe. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, over 24,000 migrants entered the country in 2020, with a large majority staying without legal status. The country’s immigration laws allow for the administrative detention of migrants under specific conditions, including in facilities like the Padinska Skela detention center, where efforts are being made to improve the living conditions for detained migrants.
