Summary/Abstract: Political statements about the "letting in" of several tens of thousands of migrants and the events on the Turkish-Greek border marked the beginning of 2020 and unequivocally heralded an uncertain spring for the countries on the Western Balkan migrant route. While countries were preparing to take measures to prevent or hinder the movement of migrants across borders, i.e. measures to prepare capacities in the event of an increased influx of migrants, the detection of the first cases and the spread of the COVID-19 virus on European soil had a strong impact on the dynamics of the migration flow, but also on the establishment of special treatment regimes for migrants and asylum seekers.
