Summary/Abstract: The study is dedicated to the half-century anniversary of the Department of Economic Sociology at the Faculty of General Economics at the University of National and World Economy. It outlines the role of the department for consolidation and further strengthening of the economic sociology field in the Bulgarian academic and research space. Some outstanding theoretical achievements of the new economic sociology, which claims to study not peripheral economic phenomena, but fundamental economic processes, are presented. The main thematic focus of the study is the contributions of Bulgarian researchers, engaged in the activity of the department, for the development of important economic and sociological topics.
