The article is devoted to the analysis of the perception of Bulgaria in the newspaper "Roden Krai", which readers were discovering their historical homeland in the new socio-political conditions. The role of these processes in the rise of national consciousness of Ukrainian Bulgarians is being studied. The period studied of 1989 - 1995, is a period when the revival of ethnic identity took place under conditions of Ukrainian civic consciousness formation. The editorial policy concerning formation of a new image of the historical ancestral home of newspaper readers is analyzed. Difficulties (particularly ideological) which the editorial staff faced during the political and economic decline, a rethinking of the past both in Ukraine and in Bulgaria were also analyzed. The metropolis authors’ role in the formation of the holistic and true image of the homeland among readers of the newspaper "Roden Krai" is emphasized.

This is a publication of a 19th century text, associated with the pilgrimage to Mount Athos. The text, edited by father Theodosius Sinaita in 1839, was extremely popular during the Bulgarian National Revival and brings a rich information about the monasteries on Mount Athos.

The paper discusses problems and points of view related to set up networking between Scripta Bulgarica project (http://www.scripta-bulgarica.eu/bg), Repertorium of Old Bulgarian literature and letters (http://repertorium.obdurodon.org/), and also other corpuses (e.g. Codex Suprasliensis from the 10th century: http://suprasliensis.obdurodon.org/, etc.) for further improvement of linking between data bases. The proposed networking will connect transcribed texts with terminology in palaeoslavistics, and other on-line resources, such as electronic editions of individual sites, electronic dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographic arrays and so on. The networking will decided a number of problems that can not yet solve in a satisfactory way. The results will be useful not only for the palaeoslavists but also for librarians, teachers, and students, representatives of mass media and the general public interested in Slavic literacy.

Russian Language and Literature is among the first foreign philologies established in the officially opened in 1935 Faculty of Languages, History and Geography in Ankara. In 1962 Bulgarian language began to be taught at the Language School of the Land Forces in Istanbul. The forced change of the names of the Turks in Bulgaria in 1984-1985, which caused a deterioration in bilateral relations, delayed the establishment of the planned bachelor's program in Bulgarian language and literature in the early 1980s. Thus, Polish Language and Literature (1987/1988) overtook Bulgarian studies and became the second philological specialty of the Slavic languages, opened at the University of Ankara. 1991 is the birth date of the academic department university specialty Bulgarian language and literature in Turkey, when the first group of students was admitted. For 32 years, it went through various stages of development or stagnation, but retained its status as a specialty. This article aims to present her previously unexplored and unknown history.

The article juxtaposes normative sketches written during the time of the People’s Re-public of Bulgaria (NRB), which build a collective image of the volunteers of the Second World War, and authentic life stories, in which literary raw moments captured in archival materials (letters, memories, diaries, tapes) are discovered, or interviews published in the 21st century. The collective essay model, created in the prism of social realism by Dimitrina Shtereva, published in the two representative books popularizing the exploits of military women in the 1960s, has been accepted as the norm. In the second part, the archived essay of the well-realized Zdravka Hristova processed in the prism of social realism is closely examined. Comparatively, to these collective and individual images, the literary silhouette of the military correspondent Frülinka Novachkova, who has no other biography than what was said in the obituaries on the occasion of her supposed death, is close.

Професорският роман – едно ново явление в българската литература

The article presents a phenomenon that until now has not been the subject of an independent and systematic study in Bulgarian literary studies. Tracing the development of the Bulgarian novel over the last three decades, it brings out the presence of a relatively homogeneous group of works that share common literary characteristics and ways of communicating with the reading audience. Systematizing and summarizing observations on more than ten novels published by contemporary Bulgarian writers, all of them university professors, the paper defines several specific features that are common to them. The phenomenon of the Professorenroman is examined briefly in the historical context of its emergence in the 19 th century, and in more detail as an effect and consequence of the development of Postmodernism in Bulgaria since the end of the 20 th century. Novels published most recently, including in 2022, are in focus.

The article examines the exploitation of the natural world and its individual consequences as they are presented in a number of utopian and dystopian novels of Bulgarian science fiction during the socialist period. Attention is first given to the post-1956 scientific and technical utopias that depict the future communist world. In these texts, nature is the enemy and victim of man; there are many scenes of ecocide and of severe industrialisation which changes nature’s landscape in accordance with the to human needs and desires. This exploitation is seen as positive and necessary for the construction of the new human world. However, later, towards the end of the 1970s, Bulgarian science fiction began to develop a more ecological attitude towards nature. The exploitation of the natural world became something characteristic of dystopian texts and the capitalist regimes described in them, albeit this time seen in its destructive aspect.

‘The Other Dream’ of Erewhon: An Essay on the Machines’ Discreet Rebellion

BULGARIAN CRITICAL AND TRANSLATION RECEPTION OF VESNA PARUN’S POETRY

The article aims to analyze and summarize the translation, critical and scholarly reception of Vesna Parun’s lyrical work in Bulgaria with the intention to complement or detail the existing reception studies in the Bulgarian scholarly field. The focus placed on the forms of presence in the Bulgarian literary space outlines as a field of research the translation and critical activity until and after 1989). Both the earlier translations and the new ones, which are essential in constructing or expanding the idea of her poetry, are object of commentary. Modern approaches to the presentation of Parun’s poetry – publications in specialized periodicals, in anthologies, etc., are examined in terms of publication strategies which lead to different contexts of perception. The existing scholarly studies, presenting the varied scholarly perspectives (literary-historical, interdisciplinary, reception studies) to the work of Vesna Parun have been analyzed as an important factor for the formation of the reception image.

WHEN POETS TRANSLATE POETRY (VESNA PARUN’S TRANSLATION OF PENJO PENEV’S POETRY)

The paper examines Vesna Parun’s translation work from an intercultural perspective, highlighting her role as a true intercultural translator who belonged to and connected Bulgarian and Croatian cultural spaces and literatures. Parun’s success in translating Penjo Penev’s works is attributed to her deep immersion in Bulgarian language and culture, as well as her poetic aptitude and mastery of poetic traditions. Parun’s translation skills were bolstered by her interpretative abilities, enabling her to understand both the original text’s context and its new reception context. Her familiarity with the socio-political and cultural milieu of the time, as an active participant, further enhanced her translations. The paper asserts that Parun adeptly navigated the various intra- and extra-linguistic elements influencing literature and its translation, solidifying her legacy as a masterful translator of poetry.

THE POETRY OF VESNA PARUN AND BLAGA DIMITROVA BETWEEN IDEALISM AND DOUBT

Since there are some important similarities as well as meaningful differences between the poetic oeuvres of the selected authors, the paper provides a comparative and a contrastive analysis of selected poems by Vesna Parun and Blaga Dimitrova. It focuses on a relationship between idealism with “absolutist” tendencies, insistence on perfection and on the ideal as a way of coping with negativity. Lyrical subjects in the poems are conceived as completely open to the unending work of desire. The lyrical subject in the poems by Parun is much more sensual, while Dimitrova’s one shows a strong tendency toward reflectiveness and abstraction. Their idealism is usually articulated through traditional symbols, such as birds, stars and the idealised topoi of childhood and nature, with love being their obsessive theme. Such a constellation is a basis for duality of the lyrical subject placed between the ecstatic projections and a tragic decomposition. Self-transcendence through love is the main ideal (that) the lyrical subject hopes to achieve, whereas its other side is the uncompromising tragic self-destruction the subject chooses so as to preserve the ideal from its loss and from the threatening meaninglessness.

RADOY RALIN AND “THE CASE” OF VESNA PARUN

The article features the Bulgarian trace in the works of the Croatian poet and her creative contacts with Bulgarian artists and literary figures in the 1960s. This period was a turning point in her work. Among her most significant friendships with men of letters was that with the great Bulgarian poet and satirist of the regime Radoy Ralin (1923 – 2004). Vesna Parun’s letters constitute an authentic testimony to her creative and intellectual views, as well as to a rich spirituality that enriched both Croatian and Bulgarian literature with its lyrical and essayistic pictures of the period.

THE SCRIPT OF LIFE: VESNA PARUN IN THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA (1962 – 1967)

The article features the Bulgarian period in the works of the great Croatian poet Vesna Parun, during which she befriended some of the most prominent artists and intellectuals in Bulgaria of that time. Bulgaria proved to be a major inspiration for the poet, but also a source of pain because of the harsh life trials she ended up facing. The period was very prolific for her. In Bulgaria she wrote not only her poetry collection The Wind of Thrace, but also magnificent essay and travelogue texts, while at the same time actively contributing to the translation of her poetry into Bulgarian. Her essays on Bulgarian poetry are particularly valuable insights of a talented and erudite artist, who sheds light not only on the poetic but also on the political processes in those years of ideological bans and creative freedom that was so hard to uphold.

The purpose of the present study is to trace how the disease Nezhit is represented in certain manuscripts, specifically dietary calendars preserved in the National Library of Serbia and the Archives of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. While the study is not exhaustive, it preliminarily outlines the framework for the depiction of this disease in the dietary calendars. For the first time, this publication highlights specific medical guidelines on how to treat individuals suffering from this condition.

The article examines the role of the riddle (folklore and literary) as a means of: developing cognitive interest in preschool children; acquiring new knowledge; developing speech; developing the ability to analyze and generalize; forming in children the skills to independently draw conclusions and inferences. The possibilities that the riddle provides to the teacher in various pedagogical situations are also indicated. A brief overview of the importance of the riddle in Bulgarian folk pedagogy and as an element of the cultural learning process is also provided.
