From the point of view of the common Slovak and Czech history, 2018 is interesting for several important anniversaries. Since the Munich Agreement, i.e. since the break-up of Czechoslovakia, 80 years have passed this year, since the Communist coup in 1948, 70 years have passed in February and since the „Prague spring“ and the subsequent invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops into Czechoslovakia it has been 50 years. All these anniversaries, however, are overshadowed by a one basic event that led to the emergence of Czechoslovakia on 28 October 1918. It was this key event and the subsequent development of a newly established state, which grew up on the ruins of Austria-Hungary as one of its successor states that the international scientific conference titled 100 years since the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic dealt with from various aspects.
