Trogir u katastru Franje I

The first half of the 19th century in Dalmatia is marked out by the rule of Francis I. Austrian strategic interests resulted in a long-prepared reorganization of the structure of the state which brought about significant changes. Traditional commercial and fiscal relations were transformed. On 23 December 1817, Francis I issued the “Patent for the introduction of a stable cadastre” (Patent uber die Einfuhrung des stabilen Katasters), by which a general property tax was introduced in the Monarchy. Work on the cadastre of Dalmatia was begun after the nomination of Governor Franjo Tomašić in Zadar (the capital of Dalmatia) in 1822 and completed in 1838. Immediately after the triangulation was done in 1838, the original cadastral plans were deposited in the Central Archives in Vienna. Today, copies of these can be found in the State Archive in Split under the title “Archive of maps of Istria and Dalmatia.”

The author publishes a Turkish navigation map held by the State Historical Museum (Moscow). It is executed in the manner traditional for the European cartography, yet with Turkish inscriptions using Arabic alphabet. The map shows the Black Sea with its northern, eastern and southern shores (the western part is cut off ), as well as the whole of the Azov Sea. The article minutely studies stylistic features of the map. There is a table with the list of geographic names found on the map (toponyms and hydronyms): the original Turkish spelling and transcription and their respective identifiable modern names.

Mapping Ptolemaic Dacia

This volume is a contribution to the decipherment of Ptolemy’s universal map, with focus on the territory known as Dacia. The information provided by Ptolemy was translated into modern data considering local features and complying with certain general principles. The difficulty of this task consisted in the way the ancient manuscripts transmitted the original location coordinates, as well as in the way Ptolemy patched together information from ancient itineraries and other sources. The author of this volume conceived a general formula for mapping Dacia based on the information found in the two oldest sources he used. Furthermore, he determined local patterns with the help of the other sources – therefore, defining locations resulted in a better determination of the surrounding relative positions. This information, as well as the correlation of the Ptolemaic locations with archaeological findings, provides an increased recognition of Ptolemaic Dacia, while also contributing to exposing the Ptolemaic universal map.

PTOLEMAIC AND COPERNICAN GLOBES IN THE 17TH CENTURY: SHORT REMARKS ON THE HANDBOOKS BY BLAEU AND BION

The famous Dutch cartographer and publisher Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571–1638) qualified himself as an instrument and globe maker under direction of T˙cho Brahe (1546–1572). In his Institution astronomique Blaeu explained the differences between techniques of construction and usage of Ptolemaic and Copernican globes. Nicolas Bion (1652?–1733) was a less renowned globe maker. In L’usage des globes celestes et terrestres he described how constructing Ptolemaic and Copernican globes. An interesting and unusual proof of persistent problem of world systems comparison in XVIIth century.

For long centuries, Slovakia was incorporated into Hungary and, being under the yoke of harsh national oppression, did not constitute a well-defined geographical unit. This is precisely what has given historico-geographical problems a very topical character over the last decades, when in particular the question of the borders between Slovakia and Hungary had a prominent place in political events. . Among Slovak historians, it is above all F. Bokes who has devoted several works to historico-geographical problems. He first sketched an overview of the evolution of the Slovak national territory from the Empire of Great Moravia to the present day and then published, in German, a more detailed study in which he subjected to a thorough analysis certain documentary materials, ^ finally, while limiting itself however to the 19th century, a study accompanied by documentary materials. However, Bokes' conclusions are not always based on a detailed study of the original literature and documents and are limited to justifying, with the help of historical arguments, the borders of Slovakia as they had been fixed by the Treaty. of Trianon.

Biogeografické regiony České republiky

This book aims with biogeographically important flora and fauna species, the same as typical phytocoenological unites in biogeographical regions (bioregions) of the Czech Republic. Higher biogeographical unites – subprovinces are characterised too. Characteristics of both bioregions and subprovinces includes description of bedrocks, morphology, climate, soils, typization of ecotopes and present landuse. The text is accompanied by characteristics of typical nature reserves. Within the territory of the Czech Republic, two biogeographical provinces, four biogeographical subprovinces and 91 biogeographical regions have been distinguished. Important part of publication is a map of biogeographical unites of the Czech Republic in the scale of 1:500 000.

UTILIZATION OF GIS IN MAPPING INVASIVE PLANT SPECIES OF THE RIVER NITRA

The River Nitra is a significant bio corridor in the Hornonitrianska basin. The river is prone to occupation by invasive species due to the disturbances caused by floods and also because a part of the river had been transferred to a new river bed. Geographic information systems tools are necessary to investigate the occurrence and distribution of these species as they help to infer the factors that affect their occurrence. Our contribution includes the results of field mapping of the River Nitra, which was carried out from 2016 to 2017. The study area of the river was divided into segments with a length of 500 m, where the occurrence of invasive species was recorded. Mapping took place within 50 m of the cunette. By using the GIS software, the values obtained were incorporated into the resulting map. Subsequently, we deduced factors which influence the increased occurrence of invasive species in some segments. The results show that a major part of the segments was attacked by at least one invasive species. The predominant species are Helianthus tuberosus and Solidago canadensis.

NEW MAPS OF THE TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE’S IMPACT ON BIODIVERSITY

The transport infrastructure is the significant factor affecting not only its immediate surroundings but also the landscape in the macroscopic scale due to the fragmentation and barrier effect. The original 'Impact of the road traffic on biodiversity atlas' was issued back in 2008 introducing maps of conflicts between green and transport infrastructure and evaluating the degree of landscape fragmentation. But a lot has changed since then. New motorways and expressways intersecting the landscape created new barriers, and the overall intensity of traffic increased. Therefore conditions for wildlife migration became worse. The opportunity to update this set of maps came with the publication of results from the National traffic census 2016. These maps are designed for the use of the strategic planning of transport sector due to the scale and the level of detail. The main purpose is to support the screening phase of the EIA process – to determine whether an area may be affected by traffic and which level of risk should be expected. Another usage is to compare the change over the past ten years by comparison of original and updated maps.

VISUALIZATION OF TRAFFIC OFFENCES IN THE CITY OF BRNO (CZECH REPUBLIC): ACHIEVING 3D THEMATIC CARTOGRAPHY THROUGH OPEN SOURCE AND OPEN DATA

This paper examines 3D visualization of traffic offences based on open data sources at the city level. Most of the existing studies and applications focus on 3D visualization of qualitative data. For this reason, this paper concentrates on 3D visualization methods for quantitative data. The possibilities of creating 3D dot maps, statistical surfaces, graduated 3D symbols and prism maps and their effective use was studied. A pilot web application visualizing crime statistics was developed for verifying the applicability of selected 3D cartographic methods and the feasibility of open source technologies for crime mapping. 3D visualizations of selected traffic offences registered and solved by municipal police (different traffic offences types) are available in a pilot application for the city of Brno (Czech Republic). The design and implementation of map components, interactive functionality, limitations and opportunities for future development are also discussed.

OLD ROADS IN DOLNÍ POMORAVÍ IN THE MIKULČICE AND KOPČANY AREA: HYPOTHESES SUPPORTED BY THE ANALYSIS OF OLD MAPS AND AERIAL IMAGERY

The paper deals with a method of integrated analysis of old maps and aerial photographs taken at different periods in order to identify old roads in the region of Dolní Pomoraví. The plain landscape, represented by the floodplain of the Morava River, has undergone numerous changes in the area of Mikulčice and Kopčany in connection with the development of its own floodplain and its use by man from the earliest times to the present. Since it is the inundation area, fluvial processes have led to the formation of typical terrain shapes that have been taken into account when crating the roads. Moreover, the later hydrotechnical interventions into the natural regime of the floodplain also reflected in the creation of roads. Taking into account both natural and anthropogenic conditions in the floodplain, they can therefore be a good starting point for distinguishing old and newer parts of roads. From the knowledge of old road network, it is possible to derive the former property conditions and impact of the settlements and in this case, it is also the approximate course of the centuries-old state border across the floodplain. Integrated analysis of old maps and aerial imagery often brings interesting and unexpected results that can also be found in practical applications and can be helpful in making further spatial analyses leading to new findings. Although the results extend beyond to a rather distant or near undated past, they can be applied in a variety of ways when deciding on the future of the study area which stands for UNESCO registration as a cross-border archeopark.

ANALYSES OF AVAILABILITY USING GIS TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION OF REAL TERRAIN

Term “availability” is most often understood as easiness of achieving a site or a services from other places which can be measured as e. g. distance, travel costs or time duration. Despite of broad usage, distance calculating is often methodically incorrect because it takes place in two-dimensional environment. This causes distortion of results which are in fact threedimensional. In our paper we focus on calculating real spatial and time distance with considering a fact that real world is not two-dimensional and terrain has often many characteristics and terrain roughness. Calculations are made on road network and hiking trails in High Tatras Mountains by use of our own tool which uses functions of GRASS GIS software. Final map layers are described and overlaid with services, tourist places of interest and phenomena of High Tatras Mountains.

MAPOVÁNÍ VIRTUÁLNÍCH INFRASTRUKTUR PRO REGIONÁLNÍ SHLUKOVÉ ANALÝZY

The aim of this paper is to present results of modeling of regional infrastructures. The paper is based on research into customer relationship management in SMEs. Part of this research was the identification of the influence of foreigners with long-term residence in the Czechia on supplier-customer relationships given by the region of origin of foreigners. The research was focused on regional geospatial relations, associated with dislocation of source countries of which 185 have been identified. The aim of the analysis was to identify spatial relationships (clusters of areas with increasing, decreasing and constant distribution of the number of foreigners) using a virtual infrastructure modeled using minimal distances. To identify relationships, a model has been developed to model infrastructure at different regional levels. Infrastructure properties were set using additional parameters. However, this modeled infrastructure shows disproportions which need to be identified and eliminated, and in this sense, the generation of infrastructure. Comparison method, exploratory analysis, multiagent systems simulation, incidence and precedence matrix and geostatistics were used to identify infrastructure characteristics. The research proved the importance of individual infrastructure parameters, especially the number of minimum edges for individual states.

MOŽNOSTI UPLATNĚNÍ MENTÁLNÍCH MAP A ASOCIAČNÍCH ANALÝZ V REGIONÁLNÍCH ANALÝZÁCH

Mental mapping was firstly used by geographers in 1960s’ and 1970s’ as an expression of a perception of a city or to study territory preferences of its citizens. In present time, it is being used in many ways in “regionalistic” tasks, however it has never became integral part of regional analysis, and so it is known as a curiosity or an anomaly in a research of a territory and its problems. With a creation of mental maps is also related processing of association analyses, which haven’t been used in regional analyses and regional development at all. The purpose of the work is to imagine options of use of a mental mapping and an association analysis in regional analyses on example of the outcomes of terrain excursions of students, who study regionalistic subjects, and demonstrate this way possibilities of use of these techniques as a new and complementary element in a research of a current state and a development potential of the territory. Based on practical knowledge, we can call mental maps of “developing” type as a hand drawn “picture” of the mapped location, which contains the most important parts of the area. In terms of a conception we can divide them into “partial” and “holistic” maps, and we can evaluate them with an analysis of a frequency. Association analyses can be concepted as associations geographical or as associations preceptual, eventually as comparative analyses, that compare states of two or more territories.

Šume vukovarskog vlastelinstva u 18. stoljeću prema kartografskim izvorima

The aim of this article is to contribute to the history of manorial cartography, using the example of cartographic sources of the Vukovar manor from the 18th century and to make an attempt to reconstruct the condition of the wooded areas in the early period of the history of estates, as well as to depict the dynamics of the disappearance of estate forests by the comparison of cartographic sources and the supporting documents of large-sized maps from the beginning and the end of the 18th century visually and by statistic data. The paper discusses the emergence of cartographic sources, especially those of Johann Philipp Frast, who was the most signiﬁcant modern surveyor and map-maker in eastern Slavonia.

Kartografski izvori za povijest slavonskih šuma u Državnom arhivu u Osijeku

The cartographic materials of various provenance and purpose are among the fundamental and irreplaceable sources for the studies of historic landscapes. Whether they are maps of larger areas, countries and provinces, or land maps containing information on the use of land in the vicinity of settlements, they represent an inexhaustible source of data to researchers of historical geography, topography, demography, ecohistory, microhistory, economic history, etc. The forests, as one of the most prominent environmental constituents and a key natural and economic resource, are present in all types of maps, regardless of the time of their creation. This allows us to say that all of our knowledge on the Slavonian forests in the past, as well as the potential of further research, is greater thanks to a relatively large number of maps kept in the domestic and foreign heritage institutions. In the holdings of the State Archives in Osijek there are a large number of such sources for the present-day East Croatia, from the mid-17th to the end of the 20th century. They are a part of several archival units, that is, fonds and collections. The most valuable are the maps of East Croatian manors and the collections of land maps of Slavonia and Syrmia. Also, there are a number of cadastral maps for the broader surroundings of Osijek, Virovitica and Vukovar. The Collection of geographical maps contains very interesting maps of Slavonia and topographic maps from the late 19th century. Some other archival units comprise of various valuable and interesting maps as well. Although the aforesaid materials are not entirely unknown to experts, a comprehensive systematic study of the maps has not been conducted yet. This especially refers to the data on the forests of East Croatia.

Atlas nářečí českého jazyka – nominativ singuláru feminin

The Atlas of Czech Dialects - Nominative Singular Feminine is the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration between experts from the Dialectology Department of the Institute of Czech Language of the Czech Academy of Sciences and experts from the Department of Geoinformatics of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc. The Atlas presents not only the dialectal phenomena that are declining and disappearing, but also the phenomena that are still alive. The main analytical dialect maps show the morphological differences in the territory of the Czech national language. The accompanying maps of spelling variations illustrate the overall territorial picture of the word form under study. In addition to the dialect maps and brief expert dialectological comments, the atlas contains texts describing the realities of former rural life, farming methods and customs, infographics, links to audiorecords and illustrative images created by artificial intelligence tools. The expert explanations are complemented by rich dialectal material, while the popular format of the texts ensures accessibility to a wide range of people interested in our dialect. Data from the Questionnaire for Research on Czech Dialects, processed into thematic maps, are brought to life by photographs taken by dialectologists half a century ago during field research.

The P4 system, proposed in the study, is a new method of geocoding that aims to address some of the disadvantages of earlier systems. This system employs rectangular cells that are assigned an alphanumeric number whose length is determined by the cell's level of subdivision (i.e., cell dimensions). All cells within the same subdivision level have the same area. Special attention is paid to the polar regions, which are covered by two special cells. The system offers different levels of accuracy and can be used as a substitute for traditional geographic data such as street addresses or postal codes.
