Summary/Abstract: From the Paleolithic sites in the north of the Republic of Moldova – Cosăuţi and Holoşniţa (Soroca district), from the calcareous rock caves at Corjeuţi (Briceni district), Duruitoarea Veche (Râşcani district), Trinca, Brânzeni, and Buzdugeni (Edineţ district) thousands of of rodent fossils, the most numerous being the fossils of the tundra mouse Microtus gregalis Pallas, 1779. Thoroughly researching the chewing surfaces of the M1 and M3 jugals, which are quite diagnostic, a series of morphological variations were observed. These variations appeared in the process of accommodating the tundra mouse to the climatic changes that occurred at the end of the Riss-Wurm interglaciation and the beginning of the Wurm glaciation in the southern part of Europe.
