Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyse the relations between Serbia and Russia during the second rule of Prince Miloš Obrenović. The role of Russia in the Balkans was crucial in 1856 after the end of the Crimean War, when relations between Serbia and Russia changed significantly. Russia lost the position of the Serbian patron, which it held during previous decades. Returning influence of Russia on the situation in Serbia and Serbia again turning to Russia was obvious after the St. Andrew’s Day Assembly in 1858 and the return of Obrenović to the throne. Prince Miloš was aware that for the realization of his plans to achieve the Serbian independence from Turkey, he first had to gain support from the Great powers. Serbia played a very important part in the Russian policy towards the Balkans. Support received by Russia, although secretly, was important for the issues of the domestic policy, and for the liberation and the unification of the Serbian people.
