The article analyzes frequency and stylistic functions of the concordant attributes in famous text of the Old Belarusian literature of the second half of the 16th c. – the preface of the Belarusian Protestant Basil Tyapinsky, dedicated to the Gospel translated and printed by him. The conclusion of the analyses is that the rhetorical devices examined in the article reflect a speech style of the preface and some oral techniques of its author.

The recollections by Józef Hermanowicz are not only an important piece of literature camps co-creating discourse of Belarusian literature camps also provide a unique record the image of the clergy in the camps. J. Hermanowicz was arrested in December 1948. In Chinese Harbin with a group of priests – St. Secondary School Teachers. Nicholas. On freedom he came out in 1955. And soon began to write his recollections. From this analysis of memories of J. Hermanowicz draws a picture of both the author and clergy enslaved in camps. The author shows the difficulties with which this specific group of prisoners had to face, wanting to preserve their beliefs and be able to carry pastoral ministry. It underlines the compatibility of the clergy of various faiths and nationalities, willingness to mutual assistance and a well-structured cooperation in the field of religion without which pastoral activity was impossible or extremely difficult. Recalling while in narration situations in which showed courage, a sense of personal dignity, proceeding in line with the truths of faith is not only a positive effect on their image but also the image of the clergy in the camps, being one of the many enslaved priests. The records J. Hermanowicz undoubtedly transmit a unique picture of the clergy.

The article highlights the works by Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas shown in the aesthetic reception of Ales Razanau. This famous contemporary Belarusian poet analyzes the peculiarities of each classical author’s worldview and characteristic features of their poetic systems. Razanau focuses mainly on Yanka Kupala’s poem “Peasant”, and in his profound analysis he aims at avoiding “hackneyed stereotypes” and reveals the essence of the text, its national and universal senses.

The novel “It is Impossible to Forget” written by Uladzimir Karatkievich is the object of a multisided analysis carried out in the article. Special attention is paid to the autobiographical features of the writer’s first novel, to the correlation of the author’s and hero’s positions. The peculiarities of the novel’s structure consisting in the unity of the historical and modern episodes, as well as in incorporating verse fragments into prosaic text are investigated. The meaning of the artistic theme in the plot development is revealed.

Complexity of the process connected with the loss of some diaries is revealed.

The subject of the research is archetypical plot structures in Belarusian authorly prose in the beginning of the 20th century. At this time the authorly plot, which was formerly nothing but the exact reproduction and repetition of ready (mythological and folklore) eventful formulae, is shifted to a whole new – creative – level of development; the turn to creative transformation of plot universals occurs. The realization of traditional plot in works by Vatslau Lastousky is remarkable in this respect. The percentage of most regular and productive plot units is defined in the article on the basis of “morphological” analysis of plot models in the fiction by Vlast. The issues of separate groups of plot archetypes dynamics as the result of the influence of individual authorly approach are studied.

The article is devoted to the analysis of generation gap conflict described in Alaksiey Karpiuk’s novel “The Roots”. Using the example of the main hero Lauren Markievich, the fate of rural pensioners who moved to the city is described. The fact that they were persuaded by their children to leave their homes cannot be ignored. Their homesickness, the feeling of spiritual emptiness and social isolation are emphasized. Alaksiey Karpiuk describes urbanized village children, who leave for the city, succumb to moral decline and cultural consumption in the first generation.

The article discusses elementary methods and trends in Belarusian and Polish literature on the turn of the 19th century using the examples of the novels written by E. Orzyeshko, Tsiotka, Z. Byadulya, E. Zulavskiy. The relationship between realistic and modernistic movements, and elements of modernistic theme and poetry in realistic prose are investigated. The interplay of literary symbolism and impressionism is analyzed. Special attention is concentrated on the structure of impression and special manifestation of impressionism in symbolic miniatures.

Yablonskaya) enables to conclude that the majority of heroes are cosmopolitan and lack national self-identification. The signs of polycultural, heterogeneous tradition are present. In the works of Belarusian authors new format of national identity based on conflicts with the country past and present appears whereas Ukrainian authors discuss current problems of the country.

The novel “Sister” by Kuzma Chyorniy has a complicated narrative organization that differs from typical Soviet prose. The category of internal eventfulness attracts special attention. Analytical psychologism (ability to see the reality primarily through psychology – impression + perception + awareness-comprehension + reasoning, thoughts) in “Sister” becomes the basis for disclosure of internal eventfulness that for the first time begins its successive domination over the internal eventfulness in Belarusian prose. Such a way of illustrating the reality was innovative and indistinctive for Belarusian realistic discourse of the 1920s and 1930s.

In the article the feminist problems investigated from the perspective of social and cultural background of the time are discussed. It is stated that individual traits of the author in feminist writing are predetermined by the influence of feminist movement (on the turn of the 19th c.) which acknowledges the presence of self-esteem in biological nature of the man (on the turn of the 20th c.). Literary works of Polish, Ukrainian and Belarusian women-writers constitute the subject of our research. In the first part of the article the works of E. Ozheshko, G. Zapolskaya, A. Pashkevich (Tsiotka), O. Kobilianskaya, Lesia Ukrainka are examined, in the second part – those of M. Gretkovskaya, N. Babina, O. Babkova, M. Vaiteshonok, T. Garelikova, O. Zabugko, L. Kostenko, V. Shimborskaya. The authors come to the conclusion that feminist traits cannot be considered as an obligatory part of literary writing of a woman-author as they depend on psychological and physical experience. They are always expressed in an individual way because they result from talent, natural forces, peculiarities of soul, intelligence, combination of national, individual and social experience.

The article discusses the works of an original Belarusian poet-emigrant Vladimir Klishyevich. This paper discusses the questions of Belarusian phonetics and stress in the light of data found in unpublished A. Lutzkyevich’s “Belarusian Grammar” which is regarded to be the first attempt to codify new Belarusian literary language. The author of the manuscript was an eminent activist of the national movement during World War I. His “Grammar” includes chapters focused on phonetics and morphology. The article concentrates on general remarks on phonetics as well as advantages and disadvantages of A. Lutzkyevich’s idea of classification of Belarusian vowels and consonants Although stress did not receive special attention in the manuscript, the author describes the features of unstable word stress in phonetics (pronunciation of the so-called “akaniye”), morphology (inflexion of nouns, adjectives and verbs), general language vocabulary, and terminology. Given the inconsistency of the contemporary Belarusian orthography, the author of the article considers the analysis and interpretation of the stress placement and comments on the abovementioned features of stress.

The method of phraseological-semantic field is used in the article. On the basis of the method, phraseological units referring to the notion of ‘man’ are singled out and characterized. Firstly, the integral and differential semes of phraseological meaning are revealed, parts of the field are arranged, its main body, the center and the periphery are pointed out, the semantic character of the phraseological units’ combination within semantic groups and subgroups are discussed. Secondly, the author discusses the possibilities to link such lexical phenomena as synonymy, variability and antonymy within phraseological-semantic groups and subgroups, the continuity and the loss of the old phraseological units in modern Belarusian literary language.

The analysis of Ihar Babkou’s reception of Zbignyev Herbert’s poetic form is undertaken. While examining the Belarusian tradition which perceives the goal of poetry as the service to people, Ihar Babkou argues that civil poetry in Belarus is dead and metaphysical one has never been born.

Часопіс “Узвышша” 1944 года як архіўны рарытэт

Text of the article is dedicated to the history and description of a single known issue of the magazine “Uzvyshsha” which was going to publish in Minsk in 1944, during the German occupation. This almost unknown for specialists periodical was created by Belarusian Cultural Association, founded in 1944. The chief editor of the magazine was a writer Yuri Vitbich, a former member of the Literary Association “Uzvyshsha” acting in the Byelorussian SSR in 1926-1931. That`s why the revived during the occupation literary magazine was also called “Uzvyshsha” and was seen by the creators as a continuation of the periodical had been earlier repressed by the Soviet regime.Magazine “Uzvyshsha” wasn`t published in 1944. There is only one non completed copy assigned for proofreading. It is in Belarusan State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art. The magazine`s content permits to study features of the literary process during the German occupation.
