Istoria biblioteconomiei şi a învăţământului biblioteconomic din Europa, America şi România este prezentată în paralel cu nume celebre de bibliotecari, al căror aport a marcat formarea multor generaţii şi o semnificativă modificare de atitudine în aprecierea profesiei de bibliotecar. Evoluţia în timp a instituţiilor de formare a bibliotecarului, programele de învăţământ, schimbările majore şi modernizarea structurilor educaţionale, apariţia tehnologiei informaţiei şi a ştiinţei calculatoarelor au fost factori determinanţi în devenirea biblioteconomiei şi a ştiinţei informării ca domenii multidisciplinare şi interdisciplinare. The history of library science and of library science education of Europe, America and Romania is presented in parallel with librarians’ noteworthy names, whose contribution has marked the evolution of several generations and a significant change of attitude in appraising the profession of librarian. The evolution in time of the institutions oriented towards the librarian’s training, the curricula, the major changes and the modernization of the educational structures, the apparition of the information technology and of the computing science have stood for determining factors in the moulding of library science and of information science as multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary fields.

În acest articol se fac referiri la învățământul biblioteconomic românesc actual și se pledează pentru încadrarea bibliotecilor cu specialişti foarte bine pregătiţi în domeniul ştiinţelor informării și documentării. Odată cu dezvoltarea exponențială a creației intelectuale și a tehnicilor de comunicare a informației, statutul și misiunea bibliotecii și a bibliotecarului se schimbă radical. Biblioteca, modernizată şi adaptată exigenţelor internaţionale, ocupă un loc esenţial în sistemul globalizat al informării și documentării științifice și culturale, iar bibliotecarul trebuie să devină un foarte bun specialist în prelucrarea şi accesarea informaţiei. După reînființarea, în 1990, a învățământului biblioteconomic românesc, reprezentat acum de șase departamente de biblioteconomie și știința informării, care funcţionează în cadrul universităţilor din Bucureşti, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Brașov, Sibiu și Suceava, s-au creat condițiile pregătirii de bază și ale perfecționării continue a bibliotecarilor români. În ultimii 15 ani, au absolvit o formă de învățământ biblioteconomic (facultate, colegiu, cursuri postuniversitare sau postliceale, masterat) aproape 3000 de studenţi și cursanți, dintre care, însă, prea puţini au reușit să se angajeze ca bibliotecari. Pentru atingerea parametrilor europeni de competență și exigenţă în pregătirea viitorilor profesioniști în domeniul infodocumentar, autorul propune revizuirea programelor curriculare și adoptarea unor măsuri legislative și administrative unitare, privitoare la stimularea interesului și la încadrarea specialiștilor în instituțiile bibliotecare. This article refers to the current Romanian education of library science and pleads for the endowment of the libraries with specialists very well trained in the field of Information and Documentation Sciences. Once with the exponential development of the intellectual creation and of the techniques of information communication, the status and the mission of the library and of the librarian have radically changed. The library, modernized and adapted to the international requirements, holds an essential place in the globalized system of scientific and cultural information and documentation, and the librarian has to turn into a very qualified specialist in processing and accessing the information. After the reestablishment, in 1990, of the Romanian Library Science education, currently represented by six departments of Library and Information Science, which function within the Universities of Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timişoara, Braşov, Sibiu and Suceava, there have been created the conditions for the basic education and for the continuous training of the Romanian librarians. During the last 15 years, there graduated a form of library science education (faculty, college, post-graduate courses, master) almost 3000 students and trainees, among whom, however, very few succeeded in having been employed as librarians. So as to reach the European parameters of competence and exigency in educating the future professionals in the infodocumentary field, the author proposes the auditing of the curricula and the adoption of unitary legislative and administrative measures, with respect to the stimulation of the interest and to the employment of the specialists in the library institutions.

În cadrul Facultăţii de Litere a Universităţii din Bucureşti este specializarea Biblioteconomie şi Ştiinţa Informării. Pregătirea profesională se realizează la nivel licenţă, masterat şi doctorat. De asemenea, sunt organizate cursuri postuniversitare pentru absolvenţii REZUMATELE ARTICOLELOR 6 Revista Română de Biblioteconomie şi Ştiinţa Informării Anul 2, nr. 4, 2006 altor specializări care doresc să lucreze în bibliotecă precum şi cursuri postliceale pentru absolvenţii de liceu. Studiul mai prezintă tendinţele şi perspectivele în dezvoltarea învăţământului universitar de specialitate în acord cu Planul Bologna şi cu solicitările pieţei muncii. As part of Philological Faculty of University from Bucharest is the specialization Librarianship and Information Science. The vocationally qualification is achieved to the university degree, master’s degree and Phd level. Also, there are organized post-graduate courses for the graduates of other specializations which want to work in a library, inclusive post secondary courses for the graduates of a high school. The article presents the tendencies and the views in the development of specialty academic education in agreement with Bologna Project and with the solicitations of labor market.

Prezentul articol supune atenției noastre istoria şi perspectivele pe care secția Biblioteconomie din Sibiu a traversat-o și își propune să le îndeplinească. Sunt de asemenea prezentate experiențele și realizările profesorilor, absolvenților și cursanților, precum și dificultățile întâmpinate de aceștia. Competiţia pentru promovarea specializării de Biblioteconomie din Sibiu şi pentru materializarea eforturilor şi aspiraţiilor persoanelor implicate este de asemenea săvârşită prin organizarea diferitor activităţi şi prin publicarea de cărţi. Articolul de față constituie o pledoarie convingătoare precum şi o dovadă concretă în favoarea specializării de Biblioteconomie din Sibiu. In the framework of the University citadel of Sibiu, the specialization of Library Science has come to light as a post revolutionary innovation. This article submits to our attention the history and the perspectives that the Library Science Department of Sibiu went through and proposes to comply with. There are also presented the professors’, graduates’ and trainees’ experiences and accomplishments, as well as their difficulties. The battle for promoting the Library Science Education of Sibiu and for materializing the efforts and the aspirations of the persons involved in it is also fought through different activities performed and books issued. The present article is a convincing plead for and at the same time a concrete proof as regards the Library Science education of Sibiu.

Prezentul articol încearcă să arate ce s-ar putea realiza în mod special în domeniul bibliotecilor şi documentării, deoarece Societatea Informaţiei deschide o nouă perspectivă în materie de formare, făcând posibilă auto-formarea, facilitând accesul la diferite resurse documentare şi educative, modificând raporturile între indivizi şi grupe la cunoaştere. Structurile documentare, şi în special bibliotecile, vor avea un rol mult mai activ în difuzarea cunoş- tinţelor, transformându-se în centre de resurse educaţionale sau pedagogice. The present article tries to show what’s can achieve in a specifically way in the area of the libraries and documentation because the Information Society opens a new view which report to the formation, doing feasibly the auto formation, facilitating the access to different documentary and educative resources, modifying the contacts between individuals and groups to knowledge. The documentary structures and especially the libraries, will have a much more active role in the spreading of the knowledge becoming centers of education or pedagogic resources.

Învăţământul biblioteconomic la Universitatea din Oradea a fost înfiinţat în anul 1996, în cadrul Facultăţii de Litere, ca o necesitate obiectivă a comunităţii bibliotecare din judeţ, oferind oportunitatea unei pregătiri de specialitate. Programa de învăţământ, adaptată noilor cerinţe de pregătire a specialiştilor şi corpul profesoral asigură un nivel de pregătire flexibilă care să dezvolte competenţele profesionale conform cerinţelor societăţii informaţionale. The Library and Information Science education at the University of Oradea was set up in 1996, within the Faculty of Letters, as an objective necessity of the libraryframed community in the county, offering the opportunity of a specialized training. The curriculum, adapted to the new requirements of training specialists and teaching staff assures a level of flexible training that enhances the development of professional competencies according to the requirements of the Information Society.

Lucrarea încearcă să definească profesia de bibliotecar în condiţiile impuse de noile tehnologii şi de iniţiativele digitale actuale. În plus, sunt evidenţiate implicaţiile acestora asupra personalului bibliotecilor, schimbările, atât la nivelul structural, cât şi la cel al abilităţilor profesionale, fiind uneori profunde. Evoluţia cataloagelor de bibliotecă de la fişele de catalog la OPAC-uri şi a bibliotecilor de la instituţii depozitare ale universului cunoaşterii numai pe suport de hârtie la conceptul de Library 2.0 şi la McLibrary Syndrome îşi are corespondentul firesc în schimbarea mentalităţii utilizatorului de bibliotecă de la cititorul clasic care răsfoieşte fişele de catalog, apoi cartea, la utilizatorul aflat în criză de timp care caută informaţia în mai multe cataloage online simultan şi la servicii interactive cu eficienţă maximă contra efort minim. The paper is trying to define the librarian’s profession under the new circumstances imposed by the new technologies and the digital initiatives nowadays. Additionally, the implications of these on the library personnel are pointed out, the changes both at structural level and at professional skills level being sometimes of crucial importance. The evolution of the library catalogues from the catalogue cards to OPAC’s and of libraries from institutions where information is stored only on paper to the concept of Library 2.0 and to McLibrary Syndrome has its expected correspondent in a change of mentality of the library user from the classical reader who browses the catalogue cards and then the books to the user always lacking time, looking for the needed information in several online catalogues simultaneously and to library services having maximum of efficiency for a minimum of effort.

În circuitul de transfer al informației, utilizatorii constituie elementul fundamental, toate activităţile bibliotecii fiind concepute și adaptate pentru a răspunde cerințelor lor de informare. Studiul utilizatorilor BCU Iaşi a fost realizat prin evaluarea indicatorilor de performanță calculaţi pentru perioada 2004-2005, conform standardelor ISO 2789 și ISO 11620. Inside the transfer circuit of the information, end-users represent the main element, as all the activities of the library are designed to respond to their study needs. The evaluation of the BCU Iasi users was done by analyzing the indicators of performance, which had been calculated between 2004 and 2005, according to ISO 2789 and ISO 11620 standards.

Integrarea europeană se va reflecta în mod firesc și în activitatea biblioteconomică, prin alinierea structurilor infodocumentare la standardele europene privind accesul la informație. Preocupările europene în această privință sunt definite prin anumite programe cadru ce acoperă întreaga sferă de activitate a conservării și comunicării colecțiilor, acestea punând accentul, cu precadere, pe crearea unor condiții optime de păstrare, comunicare și expunere a documentelor. Nu în ultimul rând, integrarea se va reflecta și în calitatea documentului pus la dispoziţia utilizatorului. Așadar, documentele trebuie să îndeplinească obligatoriu anumite condiţii. Din păcate, în prezent, bibliotecile românești în general iar cele din învățământ în special se confruntă deseori cu aspecte de tipul: desfășurarea activităţii în spaţii inadecvate, oferirea unor condiţii de studiu instabile și personalul insuficient. Realităţile și perspectivele în privința conservării documentelor din biblioteci se impun a fi coroborate - în vederea integrării - cu percepţia actuală a acestor probleme în Uniunea Europeană. The European integration will naturally reflect also in the information and librarianship activities, through the alignment of the informational structures to the European standards for the access to information. The European preoccupations as regards are defined by certain frame-programs that cover the entire sphere of activities of collection preservation and communication. These programs emphasise especially the creation of optimum conditions of conservation, communication and exposure of the documents. Last, but not least, the integration will reflect also in the quality of the document available to the user. Thus, the documents must respect certain conditions. Unfortunately, now, the Romanian libraries in general, and the education libraries in particular are often confronted with these kinds of issues: inadequate spaces for their activity, instable conditions for study, insufficient personnel. The realities and the perspectives of the preservation of documents must be corroborated - for the integration process - with the present perception of these problems in the European Union.

Alături şi împreună cu profesorii, bibliotecarii au un rol vital în instruirea şi îndrumarea utilizatorilor, asistenţa biblioteconomică devenind astfel o activitate de bază a specialistului în informare. Educaţia pentru informare este premisa bunei funcţionări a societăţii contemporane. Romania’s adhesion to the European Union requires important changes in all fields of activity, also in the educational level. The European citizen must acquire new abilities for the efficient use of the informational resources and technologies. Information literacy is the set of abilities and skills learnt and developed for working with all types of information and documents. Alongside and together with the teachers, the librarians have a vital role in the education and guidance of the users, the librarianship assistance thus becoming an essential activity of the information specialist. Training for information is the premise for the good performance of the contemporary society.

The article aims to show that the classical document paradigm in information science has the greatest potential to grasp the issues related to providing information to persons with visual disabilities. Additionally, it aims to ascertain whether the FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) study is usable in this area. The article is divided into two parts. In the first part, the paradigmatic turns in information science are briefly presented with an examination of their impact on the issues connected with users with visual disabilities. The second part briefly describes the structure of the bibliographic universe and with an examination of how it is possible to create a model of documents for users with visual impairment and of associated processes. The model of the bibliographic universe is applied to the situation of the documents for visually impaired users which currently exist. Methodologically, the article is based on the information system analysis. There is described and used an entity-relationship approach to a model of the bibliographic universe on which the FRBR study is based.

Humankind has dramatically evolved for the past thousands of years in terms of communication - starting from signs and signals conveyed via visual and auditory means and ending up with the set of signs that came to be known as the alphabet over a vast geographic area. For example, the Sumerian tablets created in Uruk were initially destined for commercial purposes and it was only afterwards that they were viewed as including knowledge of their time. Another example of historical evolution is the Egyptian papyruses gathered in Alexandria in the greatest building of the ancient world’s library. Nowadays there are only few such remnants, but their importance for how writing has evolved is invaluable.
